Interpol announced the recovery of more than $130 million in a global operation against cyber-enabled financial crime, spanning police and financial intelligence units in 40 countries.
The operation targeted business email compromise, e-commerce fraud and investment scams, intercepting fraudulent transfers in transit and freezing thousands of money-mule accounts used to launder proceeds.
Interpol's rapid payment-interception protocol, which allows member countries to flag and halt suspicious international transfers within hours, was credited with stopping several multi-million dollar thefts.
Officials emphasized that speed is decisive in recovering stolen funds, urging victims to report fraud to banks and police immediately rather than attempting to investigate on their own.
