Interpol has issued red notices for five individuals accused of operating a cryptocurrency laundering network that processed more than $700 million in criminal proceeds over four years.
The network allegedly served ransomware operators, darknet marketplaces and investment fraud rings, converting stolen cryptocurrency into fiat currency through a chain of complicit exchanges, over-the-counter brokers and mixing services.
Financial intelligence units in eleven countries contributed to the investigation, tracing transaction flows across multiple blockchains despite the network's use of chain-hopping techniques designed to defeat analysis.
Authorities say the case underscores how blockchain analytics have matured into a powerful investigative tool, turning the permanent ledger that once shielded criminals into a map of their operations.
