Police raided an industrial-scale scam call center, detaining nearly 200 workers who impersonated technical support agents from major software companies to defraud victims worldwide.

The operation used pop-up warnings planted through malicious ads to panic victims into calling. Operators then took remote control of computers, staged fake malware infections and charged hundreds of dollars for worthless services — or drained bank accounts outright.

Seized records suggest the center processed thousands of calls daily, with scripted playbooks, performance quotas and commissions mirroring legitimate call center management.

The raid followed a year-long investigation supported by international partners and complaints from thousands of victims, primarily elderly computer users in English-speaking countries.
